The 2009 Constantia Valley Grape Run
The VOB Grape Run has quickly become a classic on the running calendar.  The route is tough and challenging but arguably the most beautiful in the Western Cape.  The course runs through the historic wine farms of Groot Constantia, Klein Constantia and Buitenverwachting, as well as taking a turn through Tokai forest.

2009 Race Report
Sibusiso Mbingeleli set a new course record of 1:09:19 in winning the 6th Constantia Valley Grape Run 21.1km, presented by Sportsman’s Warehouse on 25 October.   Mbingeleli, Anthony Godongwana and Neo Molema had been locked in a tough duel for the lead as the climbed up to the highest point of the race at 7km in Buitenverwachting.   Mbingeleli opened a crucial gap as they raced through Tokai Plantation and down the 3km descent clocking kilometre splits as fast as 2:25 down the hill.   From there onward it was all Mbingeleli as he held onto the lead on the tough, undulating route back through the Constantia Valley.   Molema finished in a respectable 3rd place on the beautiful, but tough course.

In the ladies race, Thozama April won also in a new record time of 1:25:34, with Bulelwa Mtshagi and Anneline Roffey, second and third respectively.   Acsis VOB won the men’s team prize, and Celtic Harriers won the ladies team prize.

The half marathon continued to grow in popularity this year, with entries capped at the 1 500 limit.   Famous names participating in the race included multiple-Comrades Marathon winner, Vladimir Kotov and Bob de la Motte, who was visiting from Perth.   Kotov finished 1st Master (50+) and 10th overall.
